INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAY PROJECT:

“Introduction to Knitting with Beads” class.

Everyone who wants to try this should bring lace weight or sock/fingering weight yarn and knitting needles that are slightly larger than those generally used for the yarn (eg bring size 4, 5 or 6 needles). The needles can be either straight or circular. If you have very tiny steel crochet hooks, please bring them too. The hook must be small enough to fit through the hole in the beads.

Bridgett will have the appropriate sized beads available for $5.00 per box. They are sold by weight and each box has around 400-450 beads. They are size 6 or 8 seed beads. The beads she likes are made in Japan and are very uniform, have nice permanent colors and no sharp edges to cut the yarn. Beads from craft stores are a little less expensive, but they are of a lesser quality. Since it is a little more fussy to knit with the beads, Bridgett thinks you should use the quality product and not be disappointed if they would break, chip, or be so irregular that they all won’t fit on your yarn. If you have your own beads, you can use them if you prefer.
