JANUARY 2010 MEETING NOTES

February 18, 2010

WOOLY WONDERS FIBER GUILD
Notes of meeting of 1/30/10

The meeting was held at Suzanne’s home.

Old Business

Barrow Christmas Tree:
The tree was dismantled and is currently stored, along with all decorations, in Kathi’s attic.

Spring Fling Retreat
Tina and Jerri provided current information related to the March 12 and 13 Knitters Retreat at Cross Creek. Ten registrations have already been received. Three vendors have been identified so far and additional vendor possibilities were suggested. Tina has received inquiries from people who wish to attend only one day. The consensus was that we need to attain the required minimum of 40 overnight participants and then will be able to accommodate these requests. The 50% scholarships (up to 10) approved at the last meeting were discussed. Knitters interested in subsidized attendance should be directed to complete the registration process. Guild members who are aware of possible scholarship recipients should provide Jane or Jerri with their contact information. Jane and Jerri will review the information and select the recipients. This will be done in a confidential manner. Tina has also received inquiries from knitters who may wish to shop, but not attend the retreat. Again, once registrations for the required 40 participants have been received, “shoppers-only” can be accommodated. There will be no fee for “shoppers-only”.

2010 dues
The $20 annual dues are now payable.

New Business

Support for regional fairs
Members approved support for regional fairs (subject to availability of funds when due in the summer) at levels identical to last year
Crawford County Fair—1 prize @$25
Venango County 4H Fair — 3 prizes @ $10

2010 Barrow Christmas Tree
Jerri provided some sample of ideas for small knitted toy decorations for the 2010 tree. She expects to have printed directions available in August or September.

Show and Tell
Many items were admired during the show and tell session.

Knitted Lace Trims
Jerri demonstrated some basic stitches for lace knitting and provided several patterns. She also discussed blocking of knitted lace.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be Saturday February 27 at Suzanne’s house. Our project will be the “Monmouth Cap”, a historic pattern. Jane brought an example to the October meeting and will lead the class. Supplies required are 2 skeins of bulky yarn and size 10 needles (dpn’s or 16” circulars).
