APRIL MEETING NOTES

April 28, 2009

WOOLY WONDERS FIBER GUILD

Notes of meeting of 4/19/09

Our April meeting was included in a “field trip” to Sue Spencer’s home to see the sheep and their new lambs.

We discussed the awards that Wooly Wonders is sponsoring for the 2009 Crawford County Fair and Venango 4H Fair. We plan to use the same format as 2008 (one $25 award for Crawford and three $10 awards for Venango) Julie and Ginny will follow-up with any necessary details.

Julie’s efforts in starting a Wooly Wonders blog (www.woolywonders.wordpress.com) were appreciated by the members. Discussion followed related to information that would be appropriate to include and information that we may wish to exclude. We decided that notes from the meetings can be included. Julie asked for any suggestions or comments for blog content.

Two area yarn/fiber/etc retail stores were mentioned. Several members had recently visited “The Needleworks”-16408 Highway 86, Saegertown and had positive comments. Anita Hotchkiss of “Anita’s Homespun Treasures” 36186 Centerville Rd, Centerville (www.anitashomespun.com )was in attendance and described her shop, its hours of operations and planned classes. Anita volunteered her shop as a possible location for a future Wooly Wonders meeting.

Ginny brought one of the newer sock knitting books, “Sock Innovations” by Cookie A. It has some beautiful patterns and is “flying off the shelves”. Dave and Patty brought some hand spun yarn from Brother Bruno of the Mount Savior Monastery in Pine City, NY (bruno.ms@juno.com). Sharon showed the group a vest-in-progress using a lace pattern that she had modified. Dave reminded us of the Knox Farmer’s market, held from May through September on Fridays 4-7.

The group expressed interest in a “Dye Day” sometime during the summer. Julie volunteered to coordinate orders of KnitPicks’ un-dyed wool for anyone interested in this project.

Photo Op’s with the lambs and a potluck lunch followed the meeting.
