MARCH 2014 MEETING

March 24, 2014

Hello Everyone,

The Wooly Wonders Fiber Arts Guild meetings for March will be on SATURDAY, March 29th at 10:00 am.

We will be meeting at the NEVERENDING STORIES BOOK SHOP which is located in downtown Franklin at 1252 Liberty Street (the same door as the Cupcakery had). We will be meeting downstairs where there are tables and chairs. You are welcome to bring your own beverages to the meeting.

For the program this month Kathy Zinz will give a refresher course on making the Helix Scarf at the request of some of our new members. We had a class in making this scarf at our November/December 2012 meeting. Please bring your completed (or in progress) scarf to this meeting.

This is a very popular scarf pattern which was offered for free on the Knitting Daily website.:

http://www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/daily/archive/2011/03/14/free-pattern-the-helix-scarf.aspx

To make the scarf you will need 450 yds of sock weight yarn and size 5 or 6 needles (either straight or circular will work). The gauge isn’t very critical but you want the fabric to have “drape” so if you knit extra tightly, you may even need to use size 7 needles.

The pattern is very easy and is a good way to learn how to do short-row knitting with “wrap and turns”. If you just want to learn this technique but not make the complete scarf, then bring scrap yarn in sock/fingering weight and your needles.

Catherine has offered to order doughnuts if you are interested but you must contact her no later than Thursday (3/27). daisy2811@yahoo.com

Check your email for an attachment with the mailing list.  Please look it over and inform us of any changes and updates.

Don’t forget to bring your show and tell items!

We hope to see you at the March meeting on SATURDAY, March 29th!

YARN BOMBING (and Prizes) in FRANKLIN

March 23, 2014

Diane’s Gift Boutique will be conducting a Yarn Bombing in Downtown Franklin on Sunday April 27th. The Yarn Bombing will include the light posts on the main block of Liberty Street.

To make this happen volunteers are needed to donate knitted or crocheted swatches of all sizes, shapes, and colors.

There is a drop-off box for donations inside Diane’s Gift Boutique.

Anyone who donates will receive a coupon for 25% off any item in the store and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of three gift baskets!

After the Yarn Bombing the materials will be re-sized, washed, and donated to the Humane Society to use for bedding.

This is a chance to draw attention to downtown and to help animals in need!

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2013 MEETING NOTES

January 13, 2014

The monthly meeting of the Wool Wonder Knitting Guild was held on December 7th at Pink Champagne Cupcakery. This was the combined November/December meeting due to the holidays.

There were two guests who came to this meeting after reading about our group on the internet and we sincerely hope that they will join us again.

A discussion was held about our members who visited the Annadele Alpaca Farm open house. Everyone enjoyed the visit and hospitality of the owners. Those who did not attend were encouraged to make the trip another time.

The upcoming Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival was discussed. It will be held March 14, 15 and 16th in Cranberry Township which is North of Pittsburgh on Rt 79. This is an awesome event with classes and vendors from all over the United States. Those who are interested in going or just interested in finding out more about the event can visit their website http://pghknitandcrochet.com/ for further information.

In new business it was suggested that we looked into having the Yarn Harlet come to our area to give a talk. If anyone knows how to contact her please let us know. We will also check with the owner of Wolf Creek Yarns to see if she would be interested in hosting her as she has hosted Debbie Bliss in the past..

Catherine E. gave a demonstration teaching us a cable method. She provided instruction for everyone so they could practice swatches at home. Following the demonstration Julie H. provided a really entertaining knitting game she devised. Everyone had a great time playing.

At the January meeting Kathie Z. will demonstrate the Locker Hooking technique which she learned at The Pittsburgh K&C Festival last year. She will have instructions for anyone who would like to try this technique.

Sadly, we were informed that The Pink Champagne Cupcakery will be moving to Seneca and therefore we will no longer be able to meet here. Catherine E. contacted the owner of the Neverending Stories Book Store located in the basement of the Cupcakery and she said that we could use her back room for the meeting. The date of January 25 was confirmed by Kathie Z. for our next meeting. There will not be any refreshments available to purchase at this location so members are urged to bring whatever they would like to drink. Kathie Z. will provide cookies for this event until we establish what the group would like to do. The entrance to the store is on Liberty Street (the same entrance as the Cupcakery). Go through the front door, turn right and go down the steps.

The meeting was adjourned with a Happy Holidays to everyone.
