JUNE 2014 MEETING NOTES

July 24, 2014

Kathy Z presented several items including the Yarn Bombing in the Franklin Park project for next year. We are to present our ideas and adopt a tree and come up with ideas to decorate a tree as there are going to be prizes for the best tree decorated. Knit and crochet ideas are encouraged. Also it was suggested that we think about doing a tree at Christmas at the Barrow next year.

Debi W., who has agreed to be our lesson coordinator, demonstrated how to card wool. Debi will show us how to spin wool at the July meeting.

The regular meeting date for August falls on Labor Day weekend and it was decided that we would move it to the Saturday before – which is August 23rd.

MAY 2014 MEETING NOTES

June 9, 2014

Treasurer’s report was given.

We spoke about moving the August meeting to the fourth weekend in August (8-23) since the last weekend is Labor Day.  To be voted on at the next meeting.  This idea was aproved with Leah at the book store and if we decide to do this we just have to let her know.

We discussed the recent yarn bombing in Franklin and Kathie Zinz had talked to Diane at Diane’s Gift Boutique and  learned she is planning to do it next year the same weekend as May mart.  She plans to have groups adopt a tree or pole and there will be a contest with prizes.  We discussed this and have decided to adopt a tree.  At the next meeting we will discuss this and make a plan hoping all will be in agreement.

Diane sent Kathie and Cat some information about knit in public day with a whole plan of activities to go along with it at her boutique.  Diane also informed us that guild members will now get a 10% off with a current gulid membership card.  Julie will be making more cards for those who don’t have them yet.  If you are currently paid for 2014 and would like your card to be mailed to you please send an email with your name and address to woolywondersnwpa@gmail.com.

Catherine brought up the suggestion of a group trip to a fiber event or possibly a trip to out of town shops.

Discussion was held on what our educational program will be at the June meeting.  If anyone would like to volunteer to give a demonstration please let us know.  Julie was going to contact Debi Wilbur about a project that had been mentioned some months ago.  Kathie went over the helix scarf pattern for those who did not know how to do it and she also talked about a life line tip she had learned.

We spoke about buying a plastic bin to store our Knitting Daily DVD’s and other small items for the Guild at the book store.

There was some show and tell and the meeting was adjourned.

MARCH 2014 MEETING

March 24, 2014

Hello Everyone,

The Wooly Wonders Fiber Arts Guild meetings for March will be on SATURDAY, March 29th at 10:00 am.

We will be meeting at the NEVERENDING STORIES BOOK SHOP which is located in downtown Franklin at 1252 Liberty Street (the same door as the Cupcakery had). We will be meeting downstairs where there are tables and chairs. You are welcome to bring your own beverages to the meeting.

For the program this month Kathy Zinz will give a refresher course on making the Helix Scarf at the request of some of our new members. We had a class in making this scarf at our November/December 2012 meeting. Please bring your completed (or in progress) scarf to this meeting.

This is a very popular scarf pattern which was offered for free on the Knitting Daily website.:

http://www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/daily/archive/2011/03/14/free-pattern-the-helix-scarf.aspx

To make the scarf you will need 450 yds of sock weight yarn and size 5 or 6 needles (either straight or circular will work). The gauge isn’t very critical but you want the fabric to have “drape” so if you knit extra tightly, you may even need to use size 7 needles.

The pattern is very easy and is a good way to learn how to do short-row knitting with “wrap and turns”. If you just want to learn this technique but not make the complete scarf, then bring scrap yarn in sock/fingering weight and your needles.

Catherine has offered to order doughnuts if you are interested but you must contact her no later than Thursday (3/27). daisy2811@yahoo.com

Check your email for an attachment with the mailing list.  Please look it over and inform us of any changes and updates.

Don’t forget to bring your show and tell items!

We hope to see you at the March meeting on SATURDAY, March 29th!
